🛂 Visa & Entry Requirements

  • Most visitors need a visa to enter Tanzania. You can apply for a visa online (e-visa) or obtain one on arrival at main airports.
  • Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date and have at least one blank page.
  • Official authorities may ask for proof of return/onward travel and sufficient funds.
  • For Zanzibar, proof of mandatory inbound travel insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation may be required for entry.

💉Vaccines, Health & Entry Vaccination Requirements

  • Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required only if you’re coming from or transiting for >12 hours through a country where Yellow Fever is endemic.
  • Recommended vaccinations include: Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Tetanus, MMR, Polio, Influenza,and Rabies depending on activities; always consult a travel clinic.
  • Malaria prevention is advised — no vaccine exists, but prophylaxis and mosquito protection measures are recommended.

💵 Money & Currency

  • Official currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS), but US dollars are widely accepted, especially in tourist areas.
  • Cash may be necessary in remote areas; ATMs and cards work mainly in cities.
  • Declare amounts over $10,000 USD when entering and exiting the country.

🌍 Language & Communication

  • English and Swahili (Kiswahili) are widely spoken, with English common in tourist services.
  • Learning basic Swahili greetings is appreciated.

  • Tanzania is generally safe for travelers; however, stay aware of surroundings, avoid displaying valuables, and keep documents secure.
  • In some regions and at times, demonstrations and localized unrest can occur — check travel advisories before you go.
