Rare creatures on the islands:
Zanzibar is home to the red colobus monkey and the Zanzibar leopard.
Another rare animal that resides in Unguja is the Zanzibar servaline genet. These cat-like animals were first discovered in the 1990s, and first photographed in 2003.
Zanzibar is also home of the coconut crab, the largest crab in the world (3 feet long and reportedly one of the most delicious).
Spice Island:
Spice farming is a major part of Zanzibar’s economy.
The islands are sometimes referred to as the Spice Islands, due to the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper that are grown there.
It Has the Largest Number of Carved Doors in East Africa:
The carved doors typically represent the cultural roots of Swahili.
White sand beaches and a prime dive destination:
The water temperature is warm, visibility is usually excellent, currents are weak and there’s an abundance of colorful fish, all of which is ideal for first time and beginner divers.
